MERCURY PROJECT SOLUTIONS PARTNERS WITH WHAT3WORDS

“Biggest disruption since Google Maps” comes to Australia and New Zealand

Sydney, 31 May 2016: Location Information Management firm Mercury Project Solutions is proud to announce it has been appointed “Authorised Solutions Consultant” (ASC) for what3words projects in Australia and New Zealand.

what3words is a multi-award winning location reference system based on a global grid of 57 trillion 3 m x 3 m squares. Each square has been pre-assigned a fixed and unique 3-word address. This means non-technical people can accurately find any location and communicate it more quickly, more easily and with less ambiguity than any other system.

Even in a developed country like Australia, 89 per cent of its landmass is not addressed. Poor addressing means remote assets are difficult to manage, aid can’t get to the people who need it most, deliveries are missed and local businesses can’t be found. For roadside assistance for instance; 25 per cent of RAC Western Australia call-outs are to unaddressed locations.

Maurits van der Vlugt, Mercury’s Director of Location Solutions says: “what3words is the biggest disruption in location technology since the arrival of Google Maps. We couldn’t be more excited to be supporting the solution in our region.”

With this partnership, customers in Australia and New Zealand can now use Mercury’s local, knowledgeable business consulting services when planning, designing and implementing location-based solutions where traditional addressing does not exist or is inadequate.

Giles Rhys Jones from what3words says: “Mercury Project Solutions have a wealth of location experience that, when combined with the ability to simple communicate precise locations offers a unique solution in the marketplace.”

Mercury Project Solutions delivers services to top tier clients in both the public and private sector to solve complex location business problems. what3words is a unique combination of just three words that identifies a 3 m x 3 m square, anywhere on the planet. It’s far more accurate than a postal address and it’s much easier to remember, use and share, than a set of coordinates. Better addressing improves customer experience, delivers business efficiencies, drives growth and helps the social and economic development of countries.

The system is being used in more than 170 countries by logistics firms, navigation apps, travel guides and NGOs. These include offline navigation giant Navmii, Australian transit app TripGo, the United Nations, Land Tasmania, Norway’s National Mapping service and the Mongolian postal service.
