Fortescue Metals Group required the replacement of its existing Land Management System (LMS) to enable the new Land Use Certificate (LUC) business process to obtain approvals to access land or to disturb ground for mining purposes as the old process required significant manual interaction and double handling of data and information. The new process is used across all operational sites, port, rail and head office. The new LUC process and LMS upgrade was designed to provide more rigorous compliance with regulatory conditions and enhanced reporting capabilities.
Mercury Project Solutions designed and planned the LMS system based on a combination of InfoScope’s tenement management system and GeoCortex’ web mapping solution. In particular, the project covered:
- Implementation of electronic workflows to control the LUC process from approval to close out
- Implementation of enhanced tracking and monitoring of LUC applications
- Enabling (compliance) reporting for internal and external stakeholders
- System integration with SAP, Cintellate, InfoScope and GeoCortex using BizTalk
Mercury Project Solutions led a series of agile development sprints to establish the system and progressively larger user acceptance testing workshops enabled the project to obtain crucial user feedback during the development of the LUC process while at the same time starting the change management process. The LMS system was successfully released in May 2017.
